Many institutions boast on their websites or to prospective employees about their commitment to diversity and social justice. I have come to realize that many people in these institutions have no clue about the meaning of diversity. For many people operating at some of these institutions diversity is a word-- only a word to attract persons from the underrepresented groups. Once these institutions are able to employ one or two persons from the underrepresent group they think their work is done---they think they have diversity. These institutions pay lip service---tokenism to people from underrepresented groups.
It is a shame what goes on at some of these institutions in the name of diversity and social justice.

How sweet it is? Justice is served! I hope that everyone at that institution has got the message, "You cannot make your own rules, when they violate a higher office in the land". How many times do you have to be hit in the pocket book before you understand that inclusion, diversity, multiculturalism and respect for others who are different than you is the law of the land? Do you flout this law because the fines do not affect your own pockets? Someone has to pay...someone has paid, someone will pay, someone has been paying the price for your stupidity and ignorance. The students pay! My suggestion is that the Board ask everyone involved in violation of the law against discrimination to contribute a portion of their salary to the settlement. If the Board became active and proactive many of these racist bigots would be forced to resign. It would clean up the institution. The level of toxicity would fall. The place would truly become diverse. Everyone would breathe freer. The funny thing is that these bigots could not find positions in academia anywhere else in the country. There is a saying, "A one eye man is king in a blind community". It fits what goes on at your institution well. Wake up Board members and Chair you have been in a stupor for too long.
The world is changing while you slumber. It is almost 2008. The Human Rights Commission is watching you.
